Transforming Our

the Zen Art
of Flower Arranging
Path of Beauty was inspired by the teachings of Mokichi Okada who believed that the appreciation of beauty through nature and the arts was a vehicle where by man could raise himself and ultimately attain true happiness.
The Sangetsu School of flower arranging based upon Okada’s philosophy, follows his example of being conscious “co-creators” with nature.

Sangetsu is a school of flower arranging inspired by visionary and master artist, Mokichi Okada, who promoted a spiritual approach to life through beauty. He taught that beauty has the power to transform, to purify the spirit and evoke the highest qualities of character from within.
Mokichi Okada believed that the appreciation of beauty through nature and the arts was a vehicle where by man could raise himself and ultimately attain true happiness. This ideal world which Okada strived to create would be a world of truth, virtue and beauty. Beauty is necessary to the soul and gives a sense of joy, peace and wholeness to our lives.
The emphasis on the appreciation of beauty has deep implications intended to influence society as a whole. By consciously exposing ourselves to beauty we become more sensitive to the beauty in all things. We become more aware of the beauty in even the weeds along the roadside, finding delight in their subtle form and color. Moreover, the more we surround ourselves with beauty, the more we begin to draw mental pictures of beauty in our minds. In essence, our thoughts become more pleasant and harmonious.
By developing this appreciation of beauty we will reach the point of finding loveliness and joy around us in every moment of our lives. The significance of this refinement is that we come to see the beauty within ourselves. In so doing we see the beauty in all people. In Okada’s words, “The key with which to transform this world into a paradise, is the beauty within man himself.”
We appreciate You and am grateful to share with you this ancient philosophy, and art of flower arranging.
